Editorial on the Wackett Widgeon

Dates seem to be set as 1924 for the Mark I and 1927 for the Mark II.

Definitive answers are elusive when trying to identify the Mark I and the Mark II. One source lists the Mark I as a flying boat (no wheels) while the Mark II as amphibious. But all of the photos here show wheels - perhaps some wheels may just be temporary. The Mark II is also supposed to be much larger than the Mark I.

The photos labeled as Mark II seem to have a radial engine, while those labeled Mark I have a water-cooling radiator out front.

Some of the documents (below) from the National Archives of Australia refer to drawings for the "Seagull Conversion" of the Widgeon.....

Widgeon Mk.II was lost in Hobson's Bay, Port Phillip, and the types were deleted from the allocation list by 1933.
